Magnetic gel nail polish creates a moving cat-eye highlight by using a magnet before the gel is cured. The most important rule is simple: shape the shimmer while the gel is still uncured, then cure immediately once you like the result.
This beginner guide explains the HOMEI method, the tools you need and how to fix a weak or uneven magnetic effect.
What you need
- One HOMEI magnetic gel colour

Step-by-step: how to apply magnetic gel
- Prepare the nail. Wash and dry your hands, remove surface oil and avoid touching the prepared nail.
- Mix gently. Roll the closed bottle between your palms, then stir gently with the brush so the magnetic particles are distributed. Do not shake vigorously.
- Apply a thin coat. Keep uncured gel away from skin and cuticles. Remove overflow before curing.
- Bring the magnet close. Hold it near the uncured surface without touching the wet gel.
- Adjust the angle. Move and rotate the magnet until the reflective particles form the effect you want.
- Cure immediately. Once the highlight looks right, cure according to the gel and compatible lamp instructions.
- Add depth if needed. Apply a second thin coat, shape the shimmer again and cure that layer separately.
With the HOMEI Compact LED Lamp, compatible HOMEI gel uses the specified 25-second cycle. Work on one nail at a time so the particles do not slowly spread again before curing.

The exact response depends on the shade, particle size, magnet shape, distance and lighting. A practice nail or one test finger makes learning much easier.
Why is the cat-eye effect weak?
The particles were not mixed evenly
Gently roll the bottle and stir with the brush before application. Magnetic particles can settle while the bottle is stored.
The magnet was too far away
Bring it closer without touching the gel. Small changes in distance can make a large difference.
The coat was cured before shaping
Once the gel is cured, the particles can no longer move. Shape first and cure second.
You waited too long before curing
The effect can soften while the gel remains wet. Cure promptly after the highlight reaches the position you want.
The layer was too thick
A thick coat can flood the cuticle, cure unevenly and reduce control. Build depth with thin, separately cured layers instead.
How to keep the pattern consistent
- Work on one nail at a time.
- Use the same side and angle of the magnet for each nail.
- Count the same number of seconds near every nail.
- View the nail under the same light before curing.
- If the effect moves to the wrong place, reposition the magnet while the gel is still uncured.
Do you need a base or top coat?
HOMEI magnetic Weekly Gel shades use the same all-in-one concept as standard Weekly Gel, so a separate base or top coat is not required for the normal routine. Optional HOMEI products can be added for a specific purpose, but they are not automatic requirements.

Removal
For peel-off HOMEI magnetic Weekly Gel, gently lift an edge and peel slowly from the cuticle towards the nail tip. If it resists, stop and use cuticle oil around the lifted edge rather than scraping or forcing it. If you used Long Keep Base Gel or another base system, follow that product’s separate removal instructions.
Magnet safety and storage
The HOMEI magnet is strong. Keep it away from medical devices, phones, computers, watches and other items that can be affected by magnetic force. Keep it dry, protect it from strong impact and store it out of children’s reach. HOMEI advises people with a metal allergy not to use the magnet stick.
Store gel tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and the curing lamp.

Magnetic shimmer changes with viewing angle and lighting. Compare it under direct light and softer indoor light before deciding the effect is too weak.
